Incoming rain, seasonal temperatures will help B.C. wildfires: crews

The BC Wildfire Service says incoming rain and more seasonable temperatures will help tame fire behaviour going into the weekend.

But as we look toward the fall, officials say there’s a moderate to high probability of higher temperatures this fall, which means a higher wildfire risk.

That’s especially true for the northeastern region of the province, where drought is prevalent and the wildfire risk remains high, the service said Thursday.

In the northwest and here on the South Coast, it is expected to be a wet fall, and wildfire risk should continue to dwindle.

There are currently 212 wildfires burning in BC — just 17 per cent are considered out of control.
