IIO called in after man arrested by Langley RCMP goes into medical distress

B.C.’s police oversight agency has been called in after a man who was arrested by Langley RCMP officers needed to be taken to the hospital.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) says the RCMP responded to a home in the area of 25 Avenue west of 272 Street just before 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 1 after police received an abandoned 911 call.

“When police arrived, it is reported that they found a man who was allegedly obstructive. He was taken into custody,” the IIO said Sunday.

The office explains the man then “went into medical distress” and was taken to the hospital as a result.

The nature of what exactly happened was not shared.

The IIO investigates all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death. The IIO is asking anyone who saw what happened or who may have video of the incident to call 1-855-446-8477.
