Hiker lost in Lynn Creek rescued after cold, rainy night

The North Shore Rescue Society (NSR) saved a sole hiker Thursday morning after he spent the night stuck in Lynn Creek.

NSR search manager Allan McMordie tells CityNews that a man called the RCMP for help at 6:30 a.m., but his phone died before he was able to provide a location.

After searching “probable locations,” rescue crews found the man, believed to be in his 30s, around 10:30 a.m. and lifted him out via helicopter.

McMordie says the man was not seriously injured but got scraped up by falling through branches and the spiny shrub called Devil’s club. He said the man is now receiving treatment by doctors at NSR’s headquarters.

The man was reportedly not prepared to spend the night in the area but got lost after a hike the night before.

“There was a lot of rain last night. It was cold and wet last night. So no, that was, wasn’t his plan,” said McMordie.

Wednesday night temperatures in Lynn Creek reached as low as 13 degrees Celsius, and the man was wearing shorts.

McMordie says he doesn’t know how the man became lost.
