Highway 99 lane reductions planned for Steveston Interchange construction

A note for those commuting through Highway 99 Steveston Interchange: Overnight lane reductions will take place while crews continue construction.

The B.C. Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says the highway will be “reduced to a minimum of one lane” in both directions starting the evening of Monday, Aug. 12 until Saturday, Aug. 17 to continue the first phase of its bridge deck build.

The ministry says the work will take place from 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. for the five nights.

During the closure, the eastbound-to-northbound loop ramp will be closed, and traffic will be rerouted using on-and off-ramps in the north side.

“Drivers can expect delays on Highway 99 overnight for these five nights and may want to consider alternative routes,” the ministry said.

During the closure, traffic will be rerouted using existing on- and off-ramps.

The ministry is asking drivers to “use caution” while driving through the area.

According to the province, the Steveston Interchange Project is part of the Highway 99 Tunnel Program, which aims to improve travel along that corridor.

The interchange is set to be expanded to five lanes and is expected to open in 2025.
