Head-on Mission crash kills 78-year-old woman

A 78-year-old Mission woman is dead after a head-on crash Tuesday evening.

The Mission RCMP says the incident happened on Wilson Street just south of Dewdney Trunk Road around 5 p.m.

Police say initial evidence suggests that a grey Pontiac Wave heading southbound had crossed the centre-line into on-coming traffic and hit a Ford Escape head-on.

“The 78-year-old driver of the Pontiac died as a result of her injuries, while the 76-year-old female driver of the Ford sustained non-life-threatening injuries,” Mounties said on Wednesday.

Police say it’s not clear why the driver of the Pontiac crossed the centre-line.

Mounties are urging anyone who may have seen the crash, or who has dash camera footage of the area, to contact the Mission RCMP at 604-826-7161.
