‘He is terribly missed’: motorcyclist in deadly crash near Massey Tunnel identified

Posts online have identified the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash on Highway 99 last week as a loving husband and father.

According to posts on social media, 56-year old father of two, Joe Toth was a mechanic for Air Canada before his death in a motorcycle crash on June 12.

An obituary about Toth, posted to the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers ‘Airways Lodge 764,’ said that Joe “worked in Air Canada line maintenance as a Category 01 aircraft maintenance engineer,” before his untimely death.

Family members said he was a hard worker and a dedicated man who would, “do anything for his family and co-workers.”

“He is terribly missed.”

The Delta Police Department initially described the June 12 incident on Highway 99 northbound just before the Massey Tunnel as a “serious” multi-vehicle collision. Later that morning, the BC Highway Patrol confirmed the collision was fatal.

In a follow-up statement, the BCHP says the motorcyclist “ran into a car, and the motorcyclist fell onto the roadway.”

“The motorcyclist was critically injured by the rear wheels of a semi-truck and tragically has passed away,” Corp. Melissa Jongema said last week.

Police are searching for the semi who “did not remain on scene and may not know what happened.”

In the post to social media, Toth’s family also implored anyone with information about the crash to contact the Surrey RCMP.
