Drivers warned of traffic impacts in Stanley Park through September

The Vancouver Park Board is warning drivers of traffic impacts coming to Stanley Park in September.

The park is anticipating that big events in the first two weeks of the month will impact roads including the Stanley Park Causeway.

During the Vancouver Triathalon on Monday, Sept. 2, the board says there will be lane closures on Georgia Street heading into Stanley Park starting at Denman to the entrance of the park starting at 6 a.m. After 6:30 a.m., all roads in Stanley Park will be closed. The seawall will remain open throughout the triathlon.

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, the parking lot adjacent to the Brockton Totem Poles area will be closed while the Ellen Neel Totem Pole is removed.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, the ‘RBC GrandFondo’ bicycle race will force the following closures:

From 4:00 to 8:30 a.m.:
A partial closure of Stanley Park Drive, east of Avison Way.

From 5:30 to 8:30 a.m.:
A full closure of Avison Way, Pipeline Road, and Stanley Park Drive.
A full closure of northbound Stanley Park Causeway and Lions Gate Bridge. Single lane, southbound Stanley Park Causeway and Lions Gate Bridge.
A full closure of West Georgia from Denman to Stanley Park

On Sunday, Sept. 8, the ‘Battle of Britain Ceremony’ will close Rose Garden Lane from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Finally, the ‘Great Outdoors Comedy Festival’ will force the closure of the Brockton Totem Poles area parking lot from Tuesday, Sept. 10, to Tuesday, Sept. 17.

From Friday, Sept. 13, to Sunday, Sept. 15, the same festival will force the closure of the Upper Cricket Field parking lot and the parking stalls along Park Drive adjacent to Brockton Totem Pole area parking lot.

The park board says some park trails will also be closed throughout the events so park staff can conduct necessary maintenance.

The board is asking visitors to consider leaving their vehicles at home.

“Alternative modes of transportation, such as public transit, walking, biking, and rolling will be the most efficient ways to get to and around the park during these special events,” it said.

“Further, reducing non-essential vehicle travel will help ensure people with disabilities and accessibility needs are able to access the park.”
