Driver dead after multi-vehicle crash on Patullo Bridge; bridge closed in both directions

The Patullo Bridge, which connects Surrey to New Westminster, is closed in both directions after a fatal five-vehicle crash.

Surrey Police Service (SPS) Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton says crews were called to reports of the crash — which included a bus — on the east end of the bridge around 8:30 a.m.

“Sadly, Surrey Fire Service and BCEHS administered life-saving measures to one adult female driver, but she passed away at the scene,” Houghton told 1130 NewsRadio.

“We do know there are other injuries to other drivers and passengers and some of the other vehicles but at this early stage, the extent of those injuries is unknown.”

The cause of the collision is also still under investigation.

Police in Surrey say the Patullo Bridge will remain closed to traffic as they work at the scene. Road closures and traffic diversions will continue throughout the day.

The Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) and the RCMP’s Criminal Collision Investigation team have been called in.

1130 NewsRadio has reached out to BCEHS for more details.

Use the Alex Fraser, Port Mann, or Queensborough bridges as alternate routes.
