Delivery truck crash in Parksville, B.C., leaves 1 person dead

One person is dead after a delivery truck lost control on Vancouver Island Friday.

The Oceanside RCMP says the crash happened just after 6 a.m. on the Inland Island Highway in Parksville.

The commercial truck was heading north when it lost control, eventually hitting the centre median before it came to a stop in the southbound lanes, police explain.

A passenger died at the scene of the crash, while the driver and another passenger were taken to the hospital.

The crash forced the closure of Highway 19 in both directions for several hours. The highway reopened around 2 p.m.

The circumstances that led up to the crash are under investigation, and the RCMP’s Collision Analysis Reconstruction Service has been called in.
