Crews recover body of second person missing after mudslide in Lions Bay last week

The search for a second person whose home was swept away by a mudslide near Lions Bay on Dec. 14 has ended.

The Squamish RCMP says emergency crews found the second body Saturday evening around 5:30 p.m. The first body had been found a day after the slide.

Village of Lions Bay Mayor Ken Berry identified the victims in a letter to all area residents Saturday.

“Lions Bay residents David and Barbara Enns have now both been found,” Berry said. “David Enns was found on Dec. 15. Barbara Enns was found today, Dec. 21, following an intense coordinated and skilled search.”

Berry says in the aftermath of this tragedy, the village is working closely with authorities and emergency services to ensure the safety of all residents.

A state of local emergency declared Dec. 15 will continue until further notice to ensure ongoing access to needed resources and expertise.

The slide damaged many homes in the area but swept the victims’ home completely off its foundation.

The mudslide near Lions Bay, about 40 kilometres north of Vancouver, came down during a severe windstorm that hit B.C.’s south coast on Dec. 14.
