Chilliwack firefighters tackle house fire

Firefighters in Chilliwack knocked down a house fire Tuesday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., crews say they were called to a home on Bonavista Street near the intersection of Avalon Avenue.

The heavy smoke and flames were tackled by a total of 35 firefighters, crews say.

While the occupants were home at the time of the fire, firefighters say they were able to safely leave the building.

Firefighters say the fire was successfully contained to the home, but it did suffer significant damage.

One occupant was assessed by paramedics for minor smoke inhalation. No firefighter injuries were reported.

The fire remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to call the RCMP at 604-792-4611.
