Break-and-enter suspect making ice cream sundae caught: Kelowna RCMP

Police in Kelowna caught an alleged burglar with a sweet tooth over the weekend.

The RCMP says a store’s alarm was triggered Sunday around 4 a.m. on Highway 33 West in the Rutland area.

“When the police officer arrived, he witnessed the suspect making a chocolate sundae behind the counter,” Sgt. Judith Bertrand, Media Liaison Officer for Kelowna RCMP, said.

Mounties say when police reached the scene they confirmed a break-and-enter and took the suspect into custody.

“The suspect will be required to attend court in the next few weeks as significant damage was caused to the store,” they said.

Police say the investigation suggests that the suspect broke the front door to gain entry into the store, tried to steal items from a fridge that was locked and then made themselves a treat.
