BC Lions trample Stampeders to record crowds

The BC Lions are in the win column for the first time this season after downing the Calgary Stampeders 26-17, and the club is saying the event drew the largest home opener crowd in its history.

The game — which featured a concert by rapper 50 Cent — saw over 53,000 fans in attendance, according to the team.

This exceeds the 51,000 people the Lions had expected.

The previous record was set forty years ago, with over 43,000 fans at the home opener in 1984.

The BC Lions next game is in Winnipeg against the Blue Bombers on Friday.
