Baseball bandits boost box of bats: New Westminster police

Stealing home plate took on a new meaning when thieves reportedly made away with a box of baseball equipment from New Westminster’s Grimston Park.

The New Westminster Police Department is looking for information or footage of thieves who stole a large green steel storage box belonging to the New West Little League.

Police say the theft of a Greenlee brand equipment bin, measuring approximately four feet long by two feet deep by 2.5 feet high, happened sometime between January and April.

The box and its contents, including baseball bats and bases marked with “NWBA,” are reportedly valued at $3,000.

“These thieves are hurting our community by targeting local sports,” said Sgt. Andrew Leaver.

“Whatever the reason behind someone wanting to do this, they need to realize they are depriving our youth, our athletes, and our community as a whole with these thefts.”

The New Westminster PD is asking residents surrounding Grimston Park to check CCTV footage for evidence of the theft.

If you have any information to share about the bin, you can call the department’s non-emergency line, 604-525-5411, and reference file number 24-80122.
