B.C. Wildfire responding to a small wildfire near Spences Bridge

B.C. Wildfire crews are responding to a small wildfire south of Spences Bridge between Ashcroft and Lytton Monday.

According to Drive BC, there is an assessment in progress for the fire, and while it is under a hectare (0.45 hectares), it is still causing noticeable delays on Highway 1 south of the community.

Kamloops fire information officer Taylor Shantz says it was spotted earlier in the day.

“The fire was initially spotted by one of our crews…They were able to pull over and start actioning the incident very quickly,” she said. “What we’re hearing from the crews on the ground is that the fire is located between the railway tracks and the highway.”

Shantz says two additional initial attack crews are attending the fire site with a repel attack crew en route.

“They will also have helicopter support to be able to action the fire with a little bit of water drop as well,” she said.

The fire is currently being held and suspected to be human-caused.
