Approximately 20 homes impacted by flash flooding in Savona, B.C.

Around twenty homes in Savona have been impacted due to overnight flash flooding Sunday evening.

The Thompson Nicola Regional District (TNRD) says there have been no injuries or major damage to critical infrastructure.

Amanda Ellison speaking for the TNRD tells CityNews that they are trying to assess the impact that the homes have sustained.

“From residents that are calling in that have reported flooding, primarily in the basements of their homes, and then, based on reports and eyes on the ground, we’re seeing that there’s potential damage to a few other homes,” she said.

Ellison says they don’t know the full extent of what the damage might look like as of Monday evening.

She says a small number of residents have accessed TNRD’s emergency services due to displacement.

“They’ve activated to support people in both Kamloops and Cache Creek, and I think at this time, there are approximately five households that are accessing those services,” Ellison said.

This comes as Highway 1 through Savona was closed overnight due to flooding followed by thunderstorms.

It has been since reopened.

The Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has been activated Monday in response to the incident.

The TNRD’s EOC asks anyone who has had their property impacted by the flooding to call 250-377-7188.
