The Delta Police Department and the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit held a two-day blitz last month, which saw almost 50 commercial vehicles taken off the road after being found to need immediate repairs.
The DPD says the operation focused on vehicles that “may not be properly maintained and could pose hazards on our roads.”
“Inspections prioritized critical aspects such as mechanical components and driver qualifications, specifically assessing brakes, tires, lights, steering, load security, driver licensing compliance, and driver fatigue,” the DPD explained in a statement.
Police say between June 19 and 20, officers looked over 84 vehicles, with 49 of them “deemed unfit for service and required immediate repairs before proceeding.”
Police say a total of 403 violations were found and 17 drivers received violation tickets.
“As always, the Delta Police Department and its law enforcement partners strongly encourage all commercial vehicle operators to conduct thorough pre-trip checks for the safety of all road users,” the DPD said.
