Abbotsford Tulip Festival in full bloom Saturday

Saturday is the first day of the Abbotsford Tulip Festival in the Fraser Valley, and the public is invited to take in over 28 acres of tulip fields, home to 100 different varieties.

There are a number of early season tulips already in bloom, including “Candy Prince,” which is a light purple variety, and “Crystal Star.”

This festival marks the beginning of Abbotsford’s Summer Flower Festival, which starts with tulips and canola in April and May, continues with peonies and lavender in May and June, and ends with sunflowers and hydrangea in August.

Another event, the Botanica Tulip Festival in Chilliwack, opens April 12. As well, the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival in Washington State is also on until the end of April.

The Abbotsford Tulip Festival will be open Saturday until 8 p.m. and will be open from 8 a.m. until dark, seven days a week, during the festivals.
