The BC Highway Patrol says a May long weekend campaign targeting dangerous drivers took 80 impaired people off the road.
Police say the “Drive to Arrive” initiative before summer driving season begins target high-risk drivers, and resulted in more than 28-hundred tickets being handed out to people speeding, street racing and driving while prohibited.
In a post to social media, BCHP says the May long weekend “set the tone for summer driving.”
The highway patrol says excessive speeders caught during the ticket blitz included a Ferrari clocked at 143 kilometres and hour in an 80 zone, a pair of Teslas going 160 and 165 in a 90 zone, a B-M-W going 185 in a 100 zone and a Dodge Charger travelling at 208 kilometres an hour, 108 over the posted limit.
“Thank you to the public for reporting high-risk drivers and impaired drivers. We would like to encourage the public to report high-risk driving to police immediately” said Corp. Melissa Jongema.
