45 speeding tickets issued in Kelowna’s school zones within 4 days: RCMP

Mounties in Kelowna say 45 speeding tickets were issued in school zones in the span of four days last week.

In a release Tuesday, the Kelowna RCMP said their Municipal Traffic Section targeted school zone speeders between Nov. 4 and Nov. 7 and saw a concerning amount of violations.

“45 school zone violation tickets were issued including one driver who was travelling 69 km/h in a 30 km/h school zone along Hollywood Road South,” it said in a statement.

In addition to the school zone infractions, the RCMP says traffic officers also impounded four other vehicles for speeding in other locations. This included one vehicle travelling 108 km/hr in a 60 km/hr zone along Glenmore Road, and another travelling 105 km/hr in the 60 km/h part of Highway 33.

“Speeding in an active school zone is considered high-risk driving behaviour and will not be tolerated,” Cpl. Michael Gauthier said in a statement.

“These enforcement initiatives will continue until the message is clear, slow down and help us keep our roads safe.”
