The Surrey RCMP says three girls suspected of stabbing a woman in Whalley earlier this month have turned themselves in to police.
Shortly after midnight on Oct. 6, Mounties responded to the report of an assault on the sidewalk near the Central City shopping mall on University Drive.
Police say the victim was quickly transported to hospital with “serious injuries consistent with a stabbing” by a good Samaritan who was in the area.
On Tuesday, the RCMP said its Serious Crime Unit had taken over the investigation and “determined that the victim was attacked by three young women who were not known to her.”
Mounties provided CCTV images of all three suspects Tuesday, who were then described as being between 15 and 20 years old.
In an update Thursday, the Surrey RCMP says the suspects had been identified and arrested after all three turned themselves in on Wednesday.
“Two suspects were arrested for assault and one was arrested for assault with a weapon, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose,” said Corp. Sarbjit Sangha.
Sangha tells 1130 NewsRadio that she’s not aware of any connection between the stabbing and the three teenage girls facing charges in relation to two violent attacks on a SkyTrain and bus in Surrey in July.
“Whether these suspects have any links to [each other], that will be explored for sure.”
Mounties say all three stabbing suspects are under 18-years-old, and were released on conditions.
Sangha says the investigation remains ongoing, and Mounties are working to recommend charges against the girls.
