Thursday was sweltering, not just in the Lower Mainland, but right around B.C.
Preliminary data shows 15 one-day heat records in the province fell on Aug. 5 as hot air and plenty of sun continued for much of B.C.
1130 NewsRadio meteorologist Michael Kuss explains the heat from the south — California and Mexico — will “dominate all of southern B.C. through the weekend.”
“I’m expecting a number of record highs across B.C. Friday and Saturday,” he added. “It may not be as hot as Thursday, but the records aren’t as high, either.”
As for the records that tumbled, new highs on Thursday were seen in Burns Lake, Chetwynd, Dawson Creek, Fort St. John, Gibsons, Mackenzie, Malahat, Puntzi, Quesnel, Sechelt, Smithers, Squamish, Tatlayoko, Whistler, and Williams Lake.
“The record high for Abbotsford today is 32.2 set in 1987, and for September 8 its 32.0. The records for Kelowna are 33.0 for September 7 and 31.5 for September 8,” Kuss said.
Kuss says the weekend will see the end of the record warmth, however, as Monday will see more cloud and a return to seasonable temperatures.
