WorkSafeBC says a worker was seriously injured in Mission Oct. 25 when a cart loaded with sheet metal fell on them.
“A shop-built cart loaded with approximately 1,400 lbs of sheet metal fell onto a worker when they were trying to move it,” the inspection report says.
A WorkSafe officer issued an order to immediately stop using the cart as it was built using a furniture dolly, a metal frame, and plywood and does not meet occupational health and safety regulations.
The officer found Horizon Metal Systems Inc. had not developed proper procedures for moving sheet metal projects on mobile carts, and the worker who was injured was not trained in the task.
In addition, the officer says the company had not developed up-to-date written procedures for providing first aid at the work site or documenting young or new worker orientations.
The patient was transported to hospital via air ambulance.
