10,000 people without power across Lower Mainland, says BC Hydro

Almost 10,000 people are without power across the Lower Mainland, BC Hydro said Saturday evening.

More than 2,000 Vancouver customers have been dealing with outages since just after 6 p.m. due to “equipment failure,” the utility says.

Thousands across Anmore, Belcarra, Burnaby, Langley, North Vancouver, and Port Moody have been without electricity since 5:30 p.m., with the vast majority of outages being due to trees falling across power lines.

The cause is still being investigated for around 1,000 customers across the region.
