1 person dead after crash in Nanaimo

Police in Nanaimo are investigating after a crash claimed the life of one person Saturday evening.

The Nanaimo RCMP say witnesses saw a car travelling south on the Nanaimo Parkway around 8:30 p.m. when it reportedly drove over the median into oncoming traffic and crashed with an SUV.

Mounties say the SUV driver was taken to hospital but later died from their injuries.

“The adult male driver of the southbound vehicle was transported to Nanaimo Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” said Const. Gary O’Brien.

The incident forced the closure of the Nanaimo Parkway between the Dunster Road overpass and Doumont Road Bridge.

Investigators are asking anyone who has not spoken with police or might have dashcam video from the collision or from the surrounding area at the time to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.
