Temporary change to green bin collection schedule for February

Garbage, green bin, and recycling set out for curbside collection
January 31 2022 –

We’re continuously monitoring the ongoing impact of COVID-19 on our staffing levels and our operations. As a result of staffing shortages in Sanitation services, there will be temporary changes to green bin collection schedules for the month of February. Our employees have worked extensive overtime hours over the past two months to maintain service, but the operational demand now exceeds the limit that we can safely cover through overtime.

Collection schedule changes

Starting January 31, green bins will be collected every two weeks (not every week), on your regular garbage day. This schedule change is temporary, and we anticipate green bin service to resume to normal, weekly collection at the end of February.

Download the VanCollect app or visit vancouver.ca/collectionschedule for garbage and green bin collection schedules, notifications, and up-to-date service alerts.

An important consideration in this decision is that in winter, green bin volumes are much lower due to less yard waste and trimmings, and colder temperatures help to reduce green bin odour.

We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your ongoing patience as our crews do their best to maintain services and safely collect Vancouver’s waste during this time.
