Sunset Beach comes alive with Symphony at Sunset

June 26 2024 –

The Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO), is excited to announce the return of Symphony at Sunset, a free open-air concert taking place on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at Sunset Beach Park. This beloved event invites concertgoers to experience an evening of enchanting music against the backdrop of sweeping views of English Bay.

“One of the highlights of our summer, Symphony at Sunset brings the community together to enjoy world-class music in one of our beautiful parks,” says Brennan Bastyovanszky, Chair of the Vancouver Park Board. “We are delighted to partner with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra to offer this unforgettable experience to residents and visitors alike.”

This year’s performance will feature recognizable music from hit films such as Star Wars, Pirates of the Caribbean, and E.T., alongside a selection of classical favourites. Conducted by the VSO’s Music Director Otto Tausk, the concert will begin with an orchestral arrangement of the Coast Salish Anthem, a piece gifted to the VSO by the grandson of the late Chief Dan George.

“The power of music brings our community together, and nothing compares to listening to the extraordinary Vancouver Symphony Orchestra with 20,000 other people as the sun sets on the ocean,” says VSO Music Director Otto Tausk.
