The Vancouver Park Board invites the public to join in commemorating National Indigenous People’s Day with a free movie night under the stars in Stanley Park on Saturday, June 22. Indigenous vendors, the Tradish Food Truck, and song and dance group – Tsatsu Stalqayu Coastal Wolf Pack – will also be on hand for an immersive cultural experience.
June 21 is National Indigenous People’s History Day. Indigenous Culture Under the Stars! movie night will happen the following day so residents can also attend the Carnegie Community Centre’s 2nd annual National Indigenous Peoples Day Block Party Celebration on June 21 from noon to 6pm.
Things to know
- Directed by Nyla Innuksuk, Slash/Back is a family-friendly Inuit science fiction movie about a group of Inuit girls fighting off an alien invasion, while trying to make it to the coolest party in town.
- Movie location is in Stanley Park at Ceperley Meadow near Second Beach Pool.
- Festivities will start at 2pm with the following schedule of events:
- 2pm: Check out Indigenous vendors and Tradish food truck!
- 8pm: Tsatsu Stalqayu Coastal Wolf Pack welcome, songs and dance
- 9:15pm: Slash/Back movie starts
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early and take public transit as parking is limited. Just before showtime the Park Board will also host two free swims at Second Beach and New Brighton pools for local Indigenous peoples in partnership with Metro Vancouver Aboriginal Executive Council.
