Some polling stations affected by power outages amid B.C. storm

Several voting stations were temporarily closed Saturday during the final day of B.C.’s provincial election due to power outages.

The closures came as B.C. was being battered by an atmospheric river that brought heavy rains to many parts of the province.

As of 10 a.m. PT, two polling stations in the Kamloops-North Thompson riding and one in the Langley-Walnut Grove riding were temporarily closed because the power was out, according to Elections B.C. updates.

Specifically, the following polls were temporarily closed:

  • R.L. Clemitson Elementary School, Kamloops-North Thompson
  • Dallas Elementary School, Kamloops-North Thompson
  • Donna Gabriel Robins Elementary School, Langley-Walnut Grove

The most up-to-date information on polling stations is available on the Elections B.C. website

The organization said that election officials were on site at the affected polls, directing voters to alternative polling stations.

Elections B.C. also reported that the Hornby Island Community Hall, the Denman Island Seniors Hall, and the Mayne Island Community Centre polling stations had been reopened after power outages led to temporary closures there as well.

Two other polling stations were affected by what Elections B.C. refers to as “election official availability.” As of 10 a.m. PT the G.E. Darby United Church in North Coast-Haida Gwaii was reopened after a temporary closure, and Dease Lake Community Hall in Bulkley Valley-Stikine was closed.

More to come.
