Man charged with 2nd-degree murder in Maple Ridge, B.C., shooting

A 26-year-old man has been charged in relation to a fatal shooting in Maple Ridge, B.C., earlier this year, police say.

On May 31, a shooting near 223 Street and Lougheed Highway left a man with life-threatening injuries. He later died at the scene, according to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT).

Police said at the time that witnesses reported seeing a male suspect who fled the scene.

IHIT announced Friday that the B.C. Prosecution Service has charged Alexander Delair of Maple Ridge with second-degree murder in relation to the case. He remains in custody, police said.

“This charge is a testament to the dedication and teamwork demonstrated by the Ridge Meadows RCMP, [Abbotsford Police Department], IHIT and the I-Teams,” Cpl. Esther Tupper of IHIT said in a press release.

IHIT did not identify the victim or his relationship with the suspect. They also said Friday that they will not release further information, as the case is before the courts.

Police are asking anyone who has additional information to contact IHIT.
