Highway 99 closed overnight in Surrey after multi-vehicle crash sends 6 to hospital: police

Police in Surrey, B.C., say Highway 99 was closed overnight after a nine-vehicle crash sent six people to hospital on Thursday evening.

The Surrey Police Service (SPS) said the stretch between King George Boulevard and the Highway 91 interchange had been closed after the crash, along with Highway 91 as far as the Highway 10 interchange.

At 10 a.m. PT Friday, DriveBC said the northbound lanes of Highway 99 had reopened.

A B.C. Emergency Health Services spokesperson said in an email that paramedics were called to the crash just after 5:30 p.m. PT, and seven patients were treated.

Police said Friday morning that six people were taken to hospital for treatment, two with serious injuries.

Police previously said at least one of the crash victims was airlifted to hospital with “potentially critical injuries.”

They are asking anyone with information, including dash camera footage taken on Highway 99 near Highway 91 at the time of the crash, to contact the SPS.

Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in the crash, police say.
