Canada’s Summer McIntosh wins 2nd gold, sets Olympic record for women’s 200m butterfly

Summer McIntosh won the women’s 200m butterfly title on Thursday, capturing her second gold and third medal overall at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

McIntosh set the Olympic record with a time of two minutes 3.03 seconds, beating Zhang Yufei’s Tokyo 2021 mark of two minutes 3.86 seconds. Yufei earned bronze in Paris, behind Regan Smith of the U.S., who took silver.

Yufei was in first place after 50 and 100 metres, with McIntosh taking the lead halfway through the race.

The 17-year-old phenom from Toronto will return to the pool later as part of Canada’s women’s 4x200m freestyle relay team.

McIntosh previously struck gold in the women’s 400m individual medley and earned silver in the 400m freestyle event in Paris.
