Four people have been charged with manslaughter and forcible confinement more than a year after a 19-year-old youth was killed in an apparent home invasion in Burnaby, B.C.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) announced that charges were laid in the death of Ryan Nagy, who lived at a home on the 7600-block of 17th Avenue.
The teen was fatally injured when Burnaby RCMP arrived at the home shortly after 7 a.m. PT on June 29, 2023, and died at the scene despite life-saving efforts.
Another woman, who has not been publicly identified, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
On Saturday, IHIT announced that Ali Shamkhi, 20, Rhoda Diabikulu, 23, Ousmaine Keita, 20, and Rais Usman, 20, were charged in relation to the death of Nagy.
“Our team worked diligently and tirelessly to bring this file to charge approval,” Cpl. Chase Smith said in a statement.
Police said Nagy lived at the home, which land titles show is owned by his father.
One neighbour told CBC News the family of four had lived there for more than a decade.
Team rosters and previous news reports show Nagy played competitive lacrosse in B.C. for many years, taking part in tournaments in the United States and even winning gold with his Burnaby-based team at the 2019 B.C. Summer Games.
