A large house fire on Monday afternoon destroyed one house and damaged two others in South Vancouver, according to firefighters.
Acting assistant fire chief Chris Gill said the house, on 49th Avenue near Oak Street, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on scene.
Firefighters had received a report of a porch fire, but instead saw flames shooting through the roof when they got there, according to Gill.
“We didn’t enter the house at all,” he said.
“We were just hitting the flames on the outside. It’s far too dangerous.”
It took firefighters an hour and a half to extinguish the flames, Gill added.
Gill said there are no known injuries, and everyone that was in the house that was destroyed had been accounted for.
Crews also did searches of the houses on either side, which were also damaged.
There was significant damage to the second floor bedroom in one of the neighbouring houses, Gill said, but firefighters were able to go in and save it.
“I would say that both houses are going to have severe smoke damage,” the firefighter added.
