Jericho Lands planning program presents landowners’ revised site concept plan

June 16 2023 –

The ʔəya҆lməxʷ/Iy҆álmexw/Jericho Lands planning program launches its fourth phase of public engagement today to share the revised site concept plan proposed by the landowners for the future redevelopment of the site.

The landowners’ revised site concept plan reflects the cultural values, history and future aspirations of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Indian Band, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation, and sə̓lílwətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nation (collectively the MST Partnership), who own the site in a joint venture partnership with Canada Lands Company (CLC).

Take the survey

Provide feedback on the site concept through the online survey, which is open from June 16-July 16, 2023.

Public feedback, along with input from stakeholders and further technical analysis, will inform the preparation of a draft Policy Statement that we’ll share with the public in the fall of 2023. The draft Policy Statement is expected to be presented to Council for consideration in late 2023.

Background

The Jericho Lands are a 36-hectare (90 acre) site in Vancouver’s West Point Grey neighbourhood, bounded by West 4th Avenue to the north, Highbury Street to the east, West 8th Ave/West Broadway to the south and Discovery Street/Trimble Park to the west.

The Jericho Lands planning program was initiated by the City at the request of the landowners, the joint venture partnership between the MST Partnership and Canada Lands Company (CLC). The comprehensive planning process will create a Policy Statement which provides direction for the site’s future on: reconciliation, transportation and connections, parks and open space, housing mix including affordable housing, land use, building height and density, sustainability, and public benefits to support the new community.

Since launching the Jericho Lands planning program in 2019, City staff have co-hosted a variety of public engagement events with the MST Partnership and CLC, providing a range of opportunities for people to share their thoughts and help shape the future of the site. The first three phases of engagement gathered community aspirations, set draft guiding principles, and shared emerging polices and draft site concepts.
