Fatal crash closes part of 80 Ave in Langley

The Lower Mainland Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service is on scene in Langley after a fatal crash Wednesday morning.

ICARS Corp. Dave Noon says a portion of 80 Avenue between 197 and 199 streets is closed in both directions.

Noon says drivers should avoid the area.

In a statement, the Langley RCMP says just after 5 a.m. Mounties received reports of the crash on 80 Avenue.

“An SUV was travelling east on 80 Avenue when it lost control and struck a tree. The subsequent collision resulted in the driver being ejected and the SUV sustaining significant damage leaving a noticeable debris field across the entire roadway,” Mounties said.

Police say the driver, who has yet to be identified, died from their injuries at the scene.

“Initial investigation has identified a related collision scene at 192 Street and 80 Avenue. The SUV struck a road sign at this location and continued to travel east on 80 Ave to the second collision in the 19800 block,” Mounties shared.

Footage from the scene shows a heavily damaged Hyundai Santa Cruz pickup truck and a damaged tree with strewn debris across the road.

There is no estimated time of reopening.
