Port Coquitlam fires displace several people

Firefighters in Port Coquitlam say a fire that left two homes heavily damaged on Tuesday displaced at least nine people.

Crews were called to the area of Pitt River Road and Langan Avenue just after 11 a.m. When they arrived, they found flames had spread from one house to the other.

“A minimum of nine people are known to live between the two homes, and there was significant damage. They will be out of their homes for some time,” said Port Coquitlam Fire Chief Blake Clarkson.

Clarkson says two people living in the homes and one firefighter were assessed for smoke inhalation. All three are expected to fully recover, with no other physical injuries reported.

Clarkson tells CityNews fire investigators were on scene Wednesday. while no official cause has been announced, Clarkson says, based on witness accounts, it was likely accidental.

Pitt River Road was closed in both directions between Langan and Morgan avenues for several hours.
