A fire broke out Tuesday afternoon at a house in the Walnut Grove neighbourhood of Langley.
The Langley Township Fire Department tells CityNews that crews arrived at the scene of a fire near 216th Avenue and Telegraph Trail around 12:50 p.m.
“When our crews arrived, there was heavy smoke and flames showing from the second floor of the residence,” said deputy fire chief Russ Jenkins.
Jenkins says there were four people and some pets in the residence at the time the fire broke out. He says the occupants were able to escape with “no reported injuries.”
Jenkins says the fire spread from the second floor into the attic, but was contained to only the one house in the area.
“It’s significant damage to the house, so I would imagine that these folks are going to be out of their residence for a period of time,” he said.
Ahead of rush hour, Corp. Craig van Herk of the Langley RCMP pleaded with drivers to avoid the area while crews are at work, saying, “Plan on an alternate route.”
