We tried Vancouver’s ketchup chip cookie mashup and we have thoughts

Step aside chocolate chips, ketchup chips are what we’re putting on our cookies now. Well, at least that’s what Breka has decided to do.

For Canada Day, Breka has released a cookie with the Canadian classic snack: ketchup chips.

These cookies are loaded with ketchup potato chips, alongside butterscotch chips and chocolate chunks, making for one unique crunchy and chewy creation. Naturally, Dished had to get our hands on one to give it a try.

The verdict: it’s a good cookie.

We were expecting the tangy taste of ketchup to be the most prominent flavour in this cookie, but we were surprised to find it was a very sweet cookie. The ketchup taste actually took a bit of a back seat in comparison to the sweet butterscotch and chocolate chunks. The aftertaste definitely did have notes of ketchup, but if you had told us there weren’t ketchup chips in this cookie, we wouldn’t have been able to guess.

Thankfully the cookie also still had that satisfying crunch to them you’d expect from a potato chip.

So, should you try this cookie? If you’re curious, then yes. However, this cookie isn’t the wild concoction of flavours that you might be expecting from a cookie made with ketchup potato chips. Would we get this over Breka’s other delicious cookies? Probably not.

You can find the Canada Day Ketchup Chip Cookie at all Breka locations from now until Canada Day. Will you be trying this unique cookie creation? Let us know in the comments.
