Impaired driver bites Vancouver Island RCMP officer

A 24-year-old woman in Langford is in a lot of trouble for not only getting behind the wheel after drinking heavily, but for biting an officer following a pursuit, the West Shore RCMP says.

Just after midnight Friday, police in Langford got word that the woman got into a Hyundai Accent after consuming a large quantity of alcohol.

She managed to drive a couple of kilometres before the police caught up with her, at which point she became belligerent and ran away on foot.

When police caught up with her, there was a physical struggle during which she bit an officer’s arm, leading to her arrest.

The woman appeared in court later Friday and was charged with four offences: impaired driving, refusing to provide a breath sample, resisting arrest, and assaulting a police officer.

She is set to appear again in court in the coming weeks.

Mounties say the officer received minor injuries and is expected to fully recover.
