Vancouver parking ticket scam making the rounds

The City of Vancouver is warning you about a text message scam, claiming the recipient is overdue on parking ticket payments.

The scam targets people via text message, saying there is an “outstanding parking ticket that must be paid” by a certain date.

The fraudsters tell people they need to pay off the fine “in order to avoid incurring additional fees,” with a link provided.

“This is not the City, we do not notify the public of fines through texting, emailing or social media,” the City of Vancouver said in a social media warning.

You are urged to not click on any links or provide personal or payment information, and to report scam messages to your cellphone provider. The scam messages should be deleted, the city adds.

Officials say they only city-approved notification methods for parking tickets are physical tickets served to vehicles and tickets that are mailed to the registered owner of a vehicle.
