East Vancouver restaurant fire closes section of 1st Avenue

A section of 1st Avenue between Renfrew Street and Kaslo Street was closed as crews responded to a fire at an East Vancouver commercial building.

Around 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, CityNews received word of a fire in a restaurant pouring black smoke into the area. Vancouver Fire Rescue Services arrived on scene shortly after.

Traffic on 1st Avenue was blocked in both directions, but reports say the fire is now out and westbound traffic is moving as of 4:20 p.m.

Southbound traffic on Renfrew Street was also temporarily blocked.

Drivers can expect heavy congestion in the surrounding area.
