Man arrested in North Vancouver office says he was there to clean bathrooms

A man has been arrested after allegedly breaking into a North Vancouver office building, claiming he was there to clean.

The North Vancouver RCMP says officers responded to a report of a break-and-enter at an office building in the Harbour Side area Sunday morning.

Mounties say they discovered and arrested a man in a fourth-floor washroom of the building.

The man allegedly claimed he was there to “help staff clean the washrooms.”

“They arrested him for breaking enter. He had no legitimate reason to be there. The building was locked. And at this point, it’s unsure how he got in but he was — he got in unauthorized, basically by breaking in,” Const. Mansoor Sahak told CityNews. “Through conversation, it’s alleged that the individual claimed that he was there to basically help clean the washroom and help the staff — which we know is false because the staff did not ask for any and use one anyone’s help.

“It is a very, very unique excuse that he came up with.”

Police say he is now in custody for outstanding warrants, breaching the conditions of his probation, and providing a false name.

RCMP says the man was arrested holding a knife and lighters.

“The officers did not locate any cleaning tool. So I think that claim has been denied — it is I think it’s quite obviously not the case.”

In a post to social media, North Vancouver RCMP said it’s also considering his latest crime “impersonating Mr. Clean.”
