It has been a soaking wet start to June so far — and the rain isn’t quite done yet
As of Monday morning, weather warnings remained for the North Shore and northeastern parts of Metro Vancouver into the Fraser Valley, along with Howe Sound.
But as you wring out from the weekend, CityNews meteorologist Michael Kuss says no records were broken.
“It was steady and persistent across the Lower Mainland — between 18 and 27 millimetres fell just yesterday. This is quite unusual for this time of year, we’ve seen precipitation in 10 of the last 14 days.”
June is traditionally the third driest month of the year for Metro Vancouver, but Kuss suggests the downpours may be skewing the typical trends.
“We’ve already had — over just the first two days of the month — half the normal amount of precipitation for June. With today and tomorrow added in, the first four days month, we will be pretty close to a seasonal amount of precipitation through June — and, of course, there’s another 20-something days to go.”
Kuss says Metro Vancouver is at the tail end of the rain event, with at least another 10 millimetres possible Monday and more wet weather expected Tuesday. But there is a change coming.
“The upside is, this starts to turn and get back into a drier pattern on Wednesday and that could take us through the next five to seven days.”
The late-week sunshine comes with predicted highs in the low to mid-20s, Kuss predicts.
