‘Quinn Chews’ to represent Canucks in ‘Stanley Pup’ competition

If watching the NHL playoffs isn’t your thing after the Vancouver Canucks were eliminated, then you can still get your fix with the league’s first ‘Stanley Pup’ competition.

It’s a rescue dog event and the Canucks will be represented by an eight-week-old brown Lab mix nicknamed “Quinn Chews,” after captain Quinn Hughes.

The competition will feature dogs from all 32 teams and many of the pups will be up for adoption in their respective cities once everything is wrapped up.

“During the hour-long special, 16 pups representing the teams that qualified for the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs will face off in a friendly competition showcasing their adorable canine skills,” says the NHL.

Unfortunately, Quinn Chews is not up for adoption in Vancouver as it is currently being cared for by Wolf Trap Animal Rescue in Fairfax, Virginia.

Some fans on social media say the dog has a similar look to the real-life Hughes.

“…has the same forlorn sad eyes and soulful expression. It’s actually so perfect,” said user aristhought on Reddit.

“We’ve found his canine alter ego,” said another Reddit user.

“Quinn’s twin,” exclaimed one person.

Meanwhile, Hughes is waiting to find out if he’ll be this year’s Norris Trophy winner after being named a finalist for top defenceman in the league. We’ll all find out when the NHL Awards are announced on Jun. 27.

The ‘Stanley Pup’ will air on Sportsnet for fans in Canada on Jun. 8 at 3:30 p.m. PT.
