Police are asking the public for help identifying a driver after an officer was almost hit during an attempted traffic stop last week.
Richmond RCMP says it is looking for dash cam footage for a vehicle involved in a “near miss” with an officer on Sunday, May 19 on Highway 91 near Knight Street Bridge.
It says an officer with the Road Safety Unit (RSU) was conducting speed enforcement with a radar gun when he says a vehicle allegedly crossed the speed limit at 145 km/hr in an 80 km/hr zone.
RCMP says the officer was on foot while attempting to stop the vehicle.
“It did not stop resulting in the officer having to dive to the side of the road to avoid being struck,” Mounties said in a release.
Sgt. Eric Baskette with the RSU says the officer was not seriously injured, but these kinds of incidents put all road users at risk.
“We are asking anyone who was in the area of Highway 91 by Knight Street between 8:40 a.m. and 9:10 a.m. to review their dashcam footage for this incident,” he said.
Mounties say the vehicle was a black sedan with a broken passenger side mirror and was last seen going eastbound on Highway 91.
