Worker rescued from Vancouver rooftop

Vancouver fire crews rescued a worker from the roof a residential building Monday morning.

Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services responded to a medical distress call around 9:45 a.m. from the top of a six-story apartment building in the Mount Pleasant area.

The East 4th Avenue and Scotia Street area was closed for some time while fire crews extended a ladder to the roof of the building and brought a person down in a stokes basket.

Matthew Trudeau of the VFRS told CityNews that crews used the best option under the circumstances.

“Because of the area where the worker was, egress and getting them out of the building was pretty challenging [from] inside. Crews on the scene called our technical rescue team, because their expertise in these kinds of calls,” said Trudeau.

The rescued person was taken to hospital, and their condition is not known.

The area has since reopened to traffic.
