While Vancouverites have been enjoying cool breezes and spring showers, the province’s interior is already dealing with new wildfires.
A fire burning west of Merritt has been classified as ‘out of control’ after it was discovered on Tuesday.
It’s currently burning slightly larger than three hectares and is suspected to be human-caused.
There are currently 105 wildfires in B.C., four of which were discovered in the past 24 hours, according to the BC Wildfire Service.
There are currently 90 holdover fires still smouldering under snow cover from 2023’s record-breaking wildfire season. The wildfire service says these fires could become a bigger threat once again as the snow melts and the air gets drier.
