Winter driving conditions as snow expected for Interior highways: ECCC

If you don’t have snow tires on your vehicle, it might be best to stay in the Lower Mainland as snow is headed for major Interior highways.

A special weather statement was issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada Tuesday morning.

The weather service says two to four centimetres of snow is expected to fall at higher elevations Tuesday night into Wednesday, affecting the Coquihalla Highway 5, Allison Pass, Okanagan Connector, and Kootenay Pass.

“An upper trough of low pressure will bring a cooler airmass to the southern BC Interior in the next couple of days. Snow levels will drop below the passes for most high elevation travellers routes tonight and snowfall can be expected through Wednesday morning,” the ECCC said.

“Snow level is forecast to rise above the mountain passes Wednesday afternoon.”

ECCC says the weather in mountain passes can change quickly, “suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.”
