If you’re planning on heading to the Interior before the long weekend, it might be advisable to make sure you still have your winter tires on your vehicle.
DriveBC says snow is expected to fall on high-elevation highways Thursday night into Friday, with accumulations of two to five centimetres expected.
The special weather statement issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada says snow could also fall on Saturday.
DriveBC explains the Coquihalla Highway 5, Okanagan Connector, Allison Pass, Kootenay Pass, Begbie Summit, and Rogers Pass will all be affected.
“An upper low will bring a cool airmass to higher elevations of the BC Interior tonight and into this long weekend. Colder air along with precipitation means the mountain passes can expect a dusting of snow overnight Thursday, and possibly overnight Friday,” ECCC said in its statement Thursday.
The weather service says snow is expected above 1,000 metres.
“Travellers should be prepared for rapidly changing weather conditions. Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.”
